Three facts from the bird's eye view

Having read this article before, I focused this time on the Bird's Eye View.

Software: I have been onto the MIT site frequently, and am amazed at the amount of information contained on the site. Not only are there reading materials but also lectures, podcasts and videos. I had not considered the importance of a balance of hardware as well as software experts to facilitate this exchange of information. Although I didn't see it mentioned in the article, software as a service (SAAS) is another type of software system which relies on hardware as well.

Hardware: The changes and improvements in hardware have been substantial. The ability to deliver content not only over the web, but on phones and mobile devices have improved portability and participation. The dilemma that we as educators face is where we will direct our energy. We need to determine how much value will be placed on content delivered through phone or live conferencing technology to determine our individual institution budgets. Hardware carries a big price tag, but can mean the difference between a mediocre delivery system and a stellar one.

Educational systems: It is interesting to consider the educational system as an area of potential growth. With the advent of digital storage and improved methods of content delivery, the system can include a wider range of programs and courses in different organizations such as museums and businesses. These community sites provide a practical use for education, and are useful not only for the young student but for learners of all ages.
