COURSE TITLE: Recycling in the Classroom DATE: 9/18
Course Description:
The importance of recycling is well known; unfortunately most of us rarely recycle as much as we should. Recycling programs in school districts are in place but are often neglected or ignored and teachers often don’t have the knowledge to enforce nor create a classroom-recycling plan. This course is designed to give instructors a complete understanding of recycling rules and procedures both in the classroom and around the district. Participants will learn both the city of San Diego recycling rules and that of San Diego Unified School District (SDUSD) as well as methods and procedures to teach their students.
Course Goals:
The goal for this course is to provide teachers the tools necessary to effectively implement and enforce a recycling program in their classrooms and school site.
Instructor Pre-determined Objectives:
At the end of this course participants will:
• Be able to identify and correctly place 9 out of 10 recyclables into their correct bins
according to district recycling rules.
• Be able to recite the districts rules and regulations with no more than four errors.
• Be able to list the five key components of effective classroom recycling without error.
• Be able to implement a recycling program in their classroom and motivate students to
participate.

• Adobe Connect, which is software, used to create information and general presentations

Course Communication:
Communication for this course will be through email and online meetings through Adobe Connect. You will be required to login in on time and are expected to participate in discussions. Through Adobe Connect you will be exposed to online documents and tutorials so be sure to have a strong internet connection.
Assessments:
Participants will demonstrate mastery of recycling concepts by achieving a minimum score of 80% on a daily ten-question assessment. The assessment will be based on that class sessions topics and will be given at the end of class. The assessments will be multiple choice and fill in the blank, given through Adobe Connect.
Grading:
Participants must complete the course having 100% attendance and having completed all five assessments with a minimum score of 80%. Successful participants will receive a certificate of completion.
Course Outline:
• Each class session will begin with an opening activity that will test the participants
recycling knowledge. 8 – 10 min.
• Presentation of rules and procedures. The first three days will be dedicated to city and
district policies while the last two days will focus on school and classroom rules and
procedures. 20 -25 min
