Principles: Web Page Organization & Time Managment

3.1.1 The information on a course web page should be organized in a way that facilitates information processing and reading.
By creating a well-organized web page, the instructor sets the learners up for success and reduces the amount of individualized assistance required throughout the course. People have learned to follow standard visual cues established by the print and web publishing industries. Instructors/course designers need to capitalize on these visual cues to help learners navigate their course content. This will aid the learner in understanding what information is available, and knowing how to access it without help from the instructor. A poorly organized course page will lead to frustration and confusion among learners.

4.1.1 The instructor should allocate adequate time to develop and deliver an online course.
As in any type of venture, preparation and adequate planning is critical for success. As the leader of this venture, the instructor must earn and maintain the trust and respect of the students. This is unlikely if course information is incomplete, or adequate time is not allowed for class session content or assignments. This is especially true for distance courses which will have different time requirements than a traditional classroom. If not prepared, a distance instructor can become very quickly overwhelmed with grading assignments, answering email correspondence, planning lessons and managing the course web page.
