Response to Distance Education and eLearning: A Brief Introduction

Three (well, actually four) reflections:

•Although I was familiar with early distance education in the form of correspondence learning, I was not aware that educational radio programs were also used.

•It was interesting for me to read this article explaining the timeline and characteristics of distance education. I was a child raised on Sesame Street, I experienced instruction via television in college (a foreign language series, much like an educational soap opera), and I witnessed the emergence of the Internet in college. I feel as if I am a “contemporary” of the distance education movement.

•Even though I am a teacher, I did not know that distance education was used for home schooling or virtual K-12 schools. At our school, we do use the Internet for blogging, posting newsletters, sharing critical school news, etc.

•I personally have never experienced a distance education course, but am interested in enrolling in a course.
