According to the website, some of the main features determining the success of online courses are:

1. the support that a course gives for online learning technologies
2. the variety of online media used for interaction
3. the use of interaction and feedback
4. the structure provided by the course site and syllabus

I will focus, when creating my syllabus, on being clear about what technologies are involved in the class and about providing links to tutorials for these technologies. To provide structure I will also focus on expectations and make it clear to students what I am looking for in the deliverables that they are being assigned. I will do this by presenting them with rubrics for each major assignment. It is important to make everything clear to the learner when it comes to expectations and work results. It is also important to allow learners to interact using multiple types of media and so I will incorporate more than one framework for communication. I will use forum postings, e-mail, and Adobe connect. If I were designing a course website I would make sure that the website is easy to navigate and provides a clear timeline of the course. I have taken previous courses that use modules to complete in sequence so that the learner is being guided step by step through the material that they are learning. I very much liked the structure that type of course provides and would replicate that in designing my own course.
