Chico's Rubric for Online Instruction

I think that the Rubric for Online Instruction does a great job of breaking down the different stages of the ADDIE process and is especially useful for newer developers because it acts as almost a check list or a job aid in essence for ensuring that the training consists of effective activities and resources. I also think that the experienced designers could also use it as a refresher to review their existing training development and revision strategies and ensure that they are continuing to provide outstanding training resources.

The 3rd category, Instructional Design & Delivery, is especially important when designing online learning because it reminds the designer to clearly define the learning objectives, and to remember to think back to the course goals and objectives when creating the activities. It also reminds the designer to think outside the back and ensure that the learners are engaged in activities that are relevant to the objectives of the course, and that provide enough interactivity and visual and mental stimulation.

The 5th category, Innovative Teaching with Technology, is also a great resource especially for online learning because it is essential that online learning incorporates technology to its fullest potential.

Overall each category can be used to create dynamic and well planned online, as well as face to face, training.
