Brian A. Levels rubric Ideas
The major way I would implement the ideas into my distance course design is to structure a plan of organization starting from the baseline Items listed in:
1. Learner Support and Resources
2. Online Organization and Design
3. Instructional Design and Delivery
4. Assessment and Evaluation of Student Learning
5. Innovative Teaching with Technology
6. Faculty use of Student Feedback
I believe that it is important to go through each stage of growth in when designing an online course because each stage provides a learning experience that can be shared with other students and taught later. When a building is built, you don’t skip the foundational parts just because the material on the outside is what others will see. You are a more effective instructor when you are able to go through each stage of learning. You will also be able to relate and identify those stages in other’s designs and help them improve to reach the highest level. It is imperative that each category start at the baseline and once the baseline items are met for each category then you move to the effective levels and then finally to the exemplary level. The rationale behind this is that you don’t want to have a part of your course that is exemplary and another part of your course that is baseline. The learner will expect all parts of the course to be the same and if the parts are not all the same, the learner will lose interest. Attached is a graphic of this idea.
