Bartosz - Mini Analysis on car maintenance

Topic : Basic money saving car maintenance
Taking your car to a car dealership or auto shop costs money. Much of the basic maintenance a mechanic charges for in their “# point inspection” can be done at home for a fraction of the cost. This course will teach you to perform five different types of basic maintenance on your car.

Audience
The audience for this course are college student drivers who own their car. These college drivers must be interested in learning about their car through an online “Distance Education” type setting.

Mini-Analysis
I created a mini analysis survey and posted it for my friends on Facebook, since it’s a great way advertise. I was able to get eleven people to take the survey. Each of fifteen questions was scaled, five being the highest and knowledgeable/interested and one being the lowest and unknowledgeable/uninterested. Each question was written to see how knowledgeable and interested the survey group was about specific car maintenance.

What types of questions did you include in your survey?
First, and a very important question to ask, was if they would be interested in learning how to perform car maintenance using an online Distance Education oriented instruction. Next, I wanted to find out the surveyors car maintenance knowledge as well as their interest to learn a specific task. Every unknowledgeable question was followed up by a “Would you be interested to learn this task” question.

Some of the questions are written below:
-Would you be interested in learning basic car maintenance through an easy to follow online tutorial?
-Do you know where your car’s lift points are?
-Do you know how to safely jack the car up?
-Do you know how to check your oil and to read it/ adjust it correctly?
-Do you know how to change your oil and oil filter?
-Do you know how to change your air filter?
-Do you know how to check tire pressure?
-Do you know how to change a tire?
-Do you know how to change your windshield wipers?

What did you find out from your mini-analysis?
Many of the people which I asked in the mini analysis survey had a low knowledge rate in car maintenance. Although the knowledge was low, the people responded high on the interest level of performing the tasks. The surveyors are eager to learn tasks that can be done at home, save money and will help them in case of an accident, (flat tire). Going in depth a little more almost all of the women who took the survey were interested in performing certain car maintenance. This type of course is useful based on the low knowledge and high interest rate.

How can you use this information to help design your course?
This course would be geared for the unknowledgeable daily driving college student. Many of the survey questions asked would be incorporated in creating topics for a course to teach people how to perform the tasks above safely with no errors.
