2 Principles - Lisa Waters

4.2.1 Technological Literacy
The instructor should provide students with adequate time and resources to master the learning technologies prior to the delivery of course content.

One of the trickiest parts of online, eLearning, or distance course development is estimating the technology abilities and system requirements for all participants in the class. Therefore principle 4.2.1 should consider providing training, or at least begin the course with a skills assessment in order to determine if any additional explanation or assistance is needed. In addition providing resources and practice activities to the participants will hopefully increase their skill sets and familiarity with the technology being used which should lead to increased participation.

4.4.1 Use asynchronous or synchronous tools to promote interaction in an online course.

Participation in an online or distance course can be challenging for both the instructor and the participant. Therefore encouraging participation through asynchronous or synchronous tools will make it easier for learners to interact with each other. Using blogs, wikis, and live online classes all give the participants the chance to interact with each. As a designer utilizing these platforms gives you the opportunity be creative and come up with activities that will educate and engage participants.
