2 Principles
Principle:
1.1.4 Audience analysis should determine the learner's personal characteristics, intellectual skills, subject knowledge level, and the purpose of taking the course.
The audience analysis is extremely crucial before the course can be fully designed. The audience has to be properly analyzed because the learning process has to be catered to their needs accordingly. It is also within the best interest of those teaching because huge amounts of money and time can be wasted if the Audience Analysis is poorly done.
By properly analyzing the audience it can be determined what the audience ALREADY knows, and what they NEED to know.
Principle:
1.2.1 Course learning goals and objectives should be stated in a manner that is clear and measurable.
The purpose of taking an educational course is to learn effectively. When the learning goals are unclear it makes the learning process difficult, confusing and utterly frustrating. By clearly stating what is required of the student then the student can make better choices instead of being clueless of the tasks at hand. By also making the goals and objectives measurable the student and instructor can track his/her process of learning and if it is effective or not. By clearly stating the goals and objectives both the student and instructor can be held accountable for their progress or unprogress.
